I'm more than a year delinquent on this blog, but I wanted to note here the first New Year's resolution that I've been on good, successful terms with.
I loved to read when I was younger. In recent years, dare I say the last decade, I have read very little for pleasure, and what reading I have done in that time is largely revisiting old friends that I've read many times before. I decided that I needed to resolve to read more in 2018.
I made some rules. The books have to be new to me--aka, I myself haven't read them before. I'm also giving some amount of care to, when I finish a book, having the next one be something completely different from what I just read. I'm also also trying to avoid reading consecutive parts of a series (I failed that once so far). So for 2018 I set out to read one book each month.
It is early May, and I am currently on book number eleven. So that's good. Here's what I've read so far.
Jan - Feb 2
The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss
Feb 2 - 17
America Gods - Neil Gaiman
Feb 17 - 21
Remains of the Day - Kazuo Ishiguro
Feb 21 - 27
I, Robot - Isaac Asimov
Feb 27 - Mar 4
The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
Mar 4 - 20
Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell
Mar 20 - Apr 4
Wise Man's Fear - Patrick Rothfuss
(sequel to The Name of the Wind)
Apr 4 - 19
Dune - Frank Herbert
Apr 19 - 25
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Brontë
Apr 25 - 28
Animal Farm - George Orwell
April 28 - ...
The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand
(Currently in progress)
That last one is going to take me awhile, but I feel pretty good about my choices so far, and my progress.
